Sahan Journal was founded to serve Minnesota’s immigrant community becasue of the underrepresentation of immigrants and refugees and subsequent lack of cultural competency in covering those communities in the newsrooms of mainstream media organizations. Their coverage recognizes the presence of the immigrant community, serves its need for representation and engagement, and centers narratives around the lives of its community members.
