Celebrating One Year of MoM

This July, we’re proud to celebrate one year since opening the doors at Movement on Montrose (MoM). What started as a vision to create a welcoming, inclusive, and creative community space has now become a reality with the support of our wonderful neighbors who’ve made it their own.

Over the past year, our studios have transformed daily. We’ve welcomed:
  • Dancers and artists rehearsing and performing across styles and disciplines
  • Small businesses hosting fitness classes, workshops and pop-ups
  • Kids and families attending dance classes and weekend activities
  • Community organizers and nonprofits facilitating mutual aid wellness fairs and neighborhood events
  • Private celebrations including birthdays, celebrations of life, baby showers, retirement parties and more
Each event has added to MoM's vibrant, ever-evolving identity.
We’re excited to keep the momentum going with a packed lineup of programming:

Lot Jams
On Wednesday, July 23rd we hosted North River Commission for their second segment of Lot Jams, a free concert series on Chicago’s Northwest side. Despite the extreme heat, theater group Chicago Shakes and musical trio Arma Blanca gave lively performances which had our crowd laughing and dancing into the night. We were also joined by our 33rd Ward Alderwoman Rossana Rodriguez and a representative from Tapestry360, who handed out information about local resources and community initiatives.

Art Exhibitions
Through the end of this year, we're proud to host three community-rooted art shows:
Dance & Wellness Programming
Movement—in every form—is central to what we do. This year, we’re thrilled to continue offering:
Community Events
We remain committed to community-driven programming and partnerships that reflect the diversity of our neighborhood. From wellness fairs to vendor markets, these events amplify local voices and provide space for meaningful gatherings.
As we enter our second year, we're focused on:
  • Welcoming more movement, art, and connection into our space
  • Continuing to say yes to the organizations, creatives, and families who make this place special
To our community: thank you for showing up, supporting one another, and helping Movement on Montrose become what it is today. This is more than just dance studios and an event venue. It’s a place for creativity, collaboration, and collective care.

Here’s to year two. Let’s keep moving together.
